Mohammed Al Amoudi is the major sponsor of the 2014 AESAONE (All Ethiopian Sports Association One) sports and cultural event taking place at the Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul, Minnesota, from June 29th to July 5th. The central event will be a football tournament but there will also be a fashion show and concert on July 4th. The event is intended to be an opportunity for Ethiopian-Americans to celebrate their identity in a friendly atmosphere. Minnesota was chosen this year because it is home to a large community of diaspora Ethiopians.
Mr Al Amoudi’s significant donation derives from his longstanding commitment to Ethiopian and African soccer and culture, extended in recent years to the diaspora in the United States. He has been a sponsor of the national Ethiopian men’s and women’s football teams. There are high hopes for Ethiopian women’s football in the years to come and the Sheikh has sought to give it the support it deserves. He supports St. George FC in Addis Ababa.
His support for AESAONE is based on its programme to unite Ethiopians through sporting events and to educate the wider community about Ethiopian culture. He is also influenced by AESAONE’s commitment to the Olympic spirit – a belief that sport is a unifying force that operates at a level well beyond ethnic, faith and political differences.
AESAONE’s stated objective is to promote the common good and general welfare of Ethiopians living in the United States as well as the general public, providing a welcoming environment that treats all participants without preference to their particular ethnicity, religion, political beliefs or gender status. It also provides various social welfare services and opportunities to foster and educate others about Ethiopian culture and traditions in the United States through sports, social events and community outreach programmes.
