The Institute of Ethiopian Studies (IES) at Addis Ababa University has dedicated a new library building, built on a 6,240 square metre plot of land, to Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi following his generous donation of 116 million Birr (approximately US$4 million) for its construction. The inauguration took place in the presence of Dr. Hirut Woldemariam, Ethiopia’s Minister of Science and Higher Education, as well as senior university and government officials and MIDROC Ethiopia senior management.
The Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Ali Al Amoudi Building will house the IES Library with at least four reading rooms, a bookstore, an auditorium and a dining hall with plenty of space for future expansion. The IES Library is the leading global resource for information and documentation on Ethiopia, including books, newspapers, periodicals and manuscripts in all the Ethiopian and international languages. Part of its mission is to preserve rare publications and manuscripts.
